A NOTE FROM THE LEAD NET DOG

SEVEN EASY WAYS TO INCREASE SALES -- FAST
By Bob Leduc

"What am I doing wrong?" That's a question
business  owners often ask themselves when
business is slow.  Often, the answer is...
"You're not doing anything  wrong. You just need
to do some things better -- and  you need to
start doing a few things you've been
neglecting."

Here's a list you can use to evaluate your own
marketing efforts. It includes what I've found to
be  the 7 most important marketing principles
contributing  to the success of ANY business.

1. TARGET SPECIFIC NICHE MARKETS

Everyone may be a prospect for your product or
service. But your marketing efforts will produce
the  best results for the lowest cost when you
target  prospects with the greatest need for what
you offer.  Identify a niche market. Customize
your promotional  material to appeal to their
greatest need. Then  multiply your results by
defining several other niche  markets and
slanting your promotional materials to  appeal to
the biggest need of prospects in each market.

2. PROMOTE YOUR OWN USP

USP is short for "Unique Selling Proposition".
It's  the compelling reason why a prospect will
do business  with you instead of with your
competition. You'll  attract the maximum number
of customers when you offer  a benefit they
cannot get from your competitors. If  you don't
already have a USP, create one by adding
something to your business you're not already
offering. Convert it into a benefit statement and
include that statement in all your advertising.

3. NEVER ADVERTISE WITHOUT AN OFFER

Always include a powerful offer in your
advertising.  Offer free information related to
your product or  service to generate inquiries or
website traffic. Then  make the most compelling
discount or bonus offer you  can afford -- to
convert these inquiring prospects  into paying
customers. This automatically leads to the  next
marketing principle...

4. COLLECT CONTACT INFORMATION AND USE IT TO
FOLLOW UP

Most prospects won't buy the first time they hear
or  see your sales message. You need a system to
collect  contact information enabling you to
reach them again  with periodic reminders and
offers. Many businesses  develop over 50 percent
of their sales by following up  with prospects
who previously requested information  but didn't
buy -- yet. Advertising is expensive.  Maximize
your return on it by following up  periodically
with the prospects it produced to convert  more
of them into customers.

5. REMOVE THE OBSTACLE OF RISK

Do you know the major reason why people don't buy
something they want or need? They don't want to
take  the chance of getting something different
than they  expect and maybe even losing money.
You can eliminate  this risk by guaranteeing
satisfaction. If you sell  products, offer a
liberal money back guarantee. If you  provide a
service, offer to continue working without
additional charge until the promised result is
achieved.

6. DIVERSIFY

It's easier and less expensive to get more
business  from satisfied customers than to find
new customers.  Continually find or develop new
products and services  related to what you sell
-- and offer them to your  customers. Affiliate
programs offer a quick and  low-cost way for
Internet based businesses to add new  products
and services to their inventory.

7. NEVER STOP TESTING

Continually test and evaluate the effectiveness
of  everything you use or do to promote business.
Here's a  highly effective 80/20 guideline you
can use. Invest  80 percent of your advertising
budget and effort in  proven promotions and 20
percent in testing new  variations. Most
businesses using this system continue  growing --
even in a highly competitive market.

Take a few minutes to evaluate how well you're
implementing each of these seven marketing
principles  in your business. A small improvement
in just one of  them will boost your sales
immediately. An improvement  in several will
generate a big increase in your total  sales
volume.

TECHIE SECTION........

Has Your Ezine Passed Its Sell-By Date?

DON'T SELL OUT! So many ezines are basically just one
big "buy me" ad - content and care over presentation a
mere afterthought. You probably know the type I mean.
And, if you've any sense, you'll stick these "sales
brochures" right where they belong - in the recycle
bin.

BE A SELL-OUT! If you hope to make any money out of
your publication, or if you're looking to increase its
profitability, you'll need to follow the best B's in
selling:

1) BONDING. Who are your subscribers? Who is your ezine
aimed at? If your ezine's a teen-zine, you will need to
know the latest *in* words and expressions. If your
ezine is for newbies, you'll need to offer simple and
clear explanations. And, if you're aiming at the
business market, your ezine should have a pristine
presentation while the content will need to be both
professional and to the point. You have to *know* your
potential customer - before you try and sell.

2) BASICS. Keep your ezine simple. Stick to plain text.
Yes, you can create an ezine with a variety of fonts,
graphics, and formatting options, but why bother when
roughly 50% of all email users only have access to
plain text compatible email clients? And instead of
your nicely centered and bright red heading is an
unintelligible line of code - hardly what you'd
planned!

I use TextPad to write my ezine. It's a great little
piece of shareware software. You can download it here:
http://www.textpad.com/ . You need to configure the
word-wrap between 48-55 characters per line to ensure
that all email clients can read your text perfectly -
just the way you intended!

WELLNESS SECTION........

Have You Decided To Go  On A Diet AGAIN?
by Jeannie Crabtree C.Ac.

I know, I know. The pounds crept back up there
didn't they? Please consider these points before
deciding to diet again. Perhaps changing your
STYLE of eating, rather than a periodic diet is
the answer.

The same style of eating is not right for
everyone. Neither is the same diet. Most of the
overweight people that I see wanting to diet are
having a metabolic problem related to a blood
sugar imbalance, which can include
hyperinsulinism and insulin resistance. Let's
discuss the role of carbohydrates (starches) and
how our body reacts to the consumption of
carbohydrates.

What does our body do with carbohydrates, anyway?

Carbohydrate foods convert to sugars that trigger
insulin production, which our body needs for
certain processes, and triggers fat storage. So
does sugar. Bottom line: that is how the body
works. There is no use trying to fight it,
instead work with your body.

The first step is to check how much carbohydrates
and sugar you are taking in every day. It means
eating smaller portions of the things we love
that are carbohydrates and cutting out the things
that are bad for us such as sugar containing
products and refined foods.

Will protein help?

Protein is the counter balance to the
carbohydrate problem. Getting 1/2 the grams of
protein to the grams of carbohydrates is a good
place to start. Eat more protein containing foods
and less carbohydrates. Protein also builds
muscle mass which helps to burn fat. You don't
eat bigger portions, you eat more protein and
less carbohydrates. Eat a little more often as
well, so that the blood sugar remains more stable
without the ups and downs. So that would mean eat
4 to 6 times a day.

Now go to your cupboard and take out a few
packaged goods. Take a good look at the
carbohydrate to protein ratio per serving. Lets
start off with some cookies: Carbohydrates 17g,
Protein 2g, (This was a Health Food Store Cookie,
check yours! Carbs are usually much higher.)
Penne Pasta: Carbohydrates 41g, Protein 7g.
Oatmeal: Carbohydrates 27g, Protein 6g. Ouch! Not
enough protein in any of these to counter balance
the carbohydrates.

Do you get the picture yet? Say you had a small
serving of the Pasta, you would need a good
source of protein at the same time to keep the
body balanced so that it does not turn to making
fat out of this meal.

Other Suggestions

Other good things to do for balance are - drink 1
quart of water for every 50 lbs. of weight. Eat
plenty of vegetables, at least half of what you
eat should be vegetables. They provide the bulk
that we need to avoid constipation and are the
primary source of minerals and vitamins we need
every day. Limit root vegetables as these are
more starchy, containing more carbohydrates.
Examples: carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams
and beets.

Eat some fruit every day. Leave fruit juice out
of you diet except for the rare occasion. Eat raw
foods everyday, Eat freshly made, not
pre-packaged foods. Drop white flour products,
refined products and sugar from your daily diet -
make them a rare treat for special occasions.

What I have stated is not specific for each
person. However, I believe the over consumption
of carbohydrates is the leading cause of obesity
in the United States. It is time to do something
about this.

A couple of people I have counseled ignored the
early warnings that their bodies were giving them
about the over consumption of carbohydrates and
eventually did become diabetic as the downward
spiral with insulin problems became worse. Don't
let this happen to you. Make healthy choices!
